Personal Trainers > Gerald Tan
Gerald was a chubby kid who picked up Taekwondo to stand up to bullies – the goal wasn’t so much about fitness or strength. Weight training was initially a vanity project during his polytechnic years when he first stepped into the gym, but he gradually learnt to love the process of getting stronger each day. Gerald then dived further into strength training, specifically powerlifting and strongman. People around him started noticing the change in his physique and began asking him for tips and advice, sometimes even asking to train with him. It wasn’t long before they asked if he’d considered Personal Training as a career. It wasn’t until Gerald got into the best shape and form during his army days that he decided to go for it. Gerald was also very determined to maintain the leaner physique he had built. But over the years of weight training, Gerald had accumulated a number of injuries and learnt to overcome and prevent them from recurring. He learnt that having 6-pack abs and looking fit or lean meant nothing if he was always hurt. So, he came to a point where he decided to help those who have had their fair share of aches, pains and injuries to be able to achieve their fitness goals. What drives his passion for fitness is the desire to see what the human body is capable of and to see the long-term benefits even in old age.
Gerald is also a competitive strongman (local) and is interested in martial arts/self-defence.
His approach to training is to feel strong and empowered first, knowing what one is able to do and achieve. The aesthetics will come as a result of physical training

“No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.” - Socrate
